A holograph copy of the first two stanzas of Jackson's poem "In April". The manuscript in ink has one correction. In another hand in pencil is the note of the poem's original publication in the Century magazine. The poem of four stanzas was published in Jackson's Poems (1892), p. 259.

Helen Hunt Jackson (pen name, H.H.; born Helen Maria Fiske; October 15, 1830 – August 12, 1885) was an American poet and writer who became an activist on behalf of improved treatment of Native Americans by the United States government.
